Submitted by admin on October 28, 2009 – 4:32 am3 Comments

I have a Motorola SB5120 modem and I want to know how to switch from usb internet connection to ethernet connection. I already have an ethernet card.
I have windows vista if that helps.

    You would plug the ethernet cable from your computer to your modem. You might want to wait to make sure that your service provider is opened when you try this in case you need help but what always works for me is this. I unplug (from the wall) my modem and my computer. I also have a router and unplug my router. The ethernet connection is in place at this point. I first plug the modem and wait, I plug my router after but if you don’t have any you would plug your computer (outlet). It always works for me.

    All you need it an ethernet cable to connect your modem to your computer. After you connect the ethernet cable to your computer and modem you no longer need the usb connected.
    The back of your modem should look like this
    Ethernet—>First
    USB—->Second
    Coax—->third (you dont need to mess with that since it should be already connected)
    Power—>fourth (you dont need to mess with that either if it is already powered on)
    I hope this helped! :)

    unplug the usb connection. plug in ethernet connection. you will want to re install the drivers for the modem and during install select to go with ethernet instead of usb.
